Pre and Post workout meals are very important to reaching a weight-loss or weight-gain goal.

When I first started working out, my goal was to gain weight. My post workout meal would consist of a five egg omelet with squash, broccoli and red peppers. Because my goal was weight-gain I was also drinking a few glasses of milk for added calories.

The other important key to these goals is water consumption. You should be drinking half your body weight in ounces per day. If you weigh 150-pounds, your water consumption should be 75 ounces. However, if you’re sweating a lot with your exercise be sure to consume more and always replenish afterwards to avoid dehydration.

After a hard workout the body is exhausted and naturally goes into a repair mode. Therefore, having the right post workout meal is huge. Consuming protein is essential in your meal. Amino acids, which are a breakdown of protein, will help repair the body and also help you reach your goal. Planning ahead for your meals and snacks will keep you from making bad choices and will keep you on track to reaching your overall goal.

A few meals I suggest:

  • Organic eggs and veggies that you enjoy – cook with coconut oil or olive oil.
  • A high quality protein drink – make sure there are no artificial sweeteners or colorings. These are toxic to the body. Jay Robb is one of the cleanest.
  • Organic chicken and beef with veggies, brown rice or quinoa for those healthy carbohydrates.

I love organic meats and highly recommend them. Not only do they have great proteins, but they also provide the high quality fats that are also essential to the body for rebuilding. And, they don’t contain all the antibiotics and hormones that can jeopardize your health.

While exercising is a key component to either goal, the food we put into our body is just as important, if not greater. So remember, drink a lot of water and try eating every 3-4 hours with a good protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrates on the menu. If you follow this plan you’ll be on your way to reaching your goal!
